Here is an example of what robots in our lab do:

Left panel: The robot picks up plates with yeast colonies and puts them on the work surface (not very exciting, admittedly...)

Right panel: Once the plates sit on the work surface the robot removes the lids from the plates and then transfers yeast colonies from one plate to another (which contains a different medium).

Believe it or not: From such a simple experiment we can deduce which proteins bind to which other ones.
